Making Love Or Having Sex?

What's the difference?

Only a decade or so! Does anyone say 'making love' nowadays? The phrase seems so old-fashioned, not to mention cheesy!

Listening to music on an iPod - making love.

Listening to music on the Zune - having sex.

In this an empirical confusion by the way? :-)

Hey man - you must first let us know what you mean by 'love'.

small typo RD

Sorry- the typo's been changed!

There's definitely an uncomfortable feeling to the words "making love" but I'm sure there's a big difference compared with "havng sex".

Perhaps it's to do with feelings. Just stuff I was thinking about.

nooo its not cheesy!! :P mm.. i reckon its the feelings plus comfort level. lotsa fun n laughter n cooing :D n relaxed messing around vs slightly akward only physical stuff..

Doesn't making love involve kissing and having sex just b&nging?

Rhythmic Diaspora said...

Mcboom - Not in my humble opinion. I think perhaps it's more about the emotions and feelings than what physical things actually take place.

So what you have been doing recently RD? Having sex or making love? Or just contemplating the past and/or the future???

Darwin, totally disagree with you. Hardly a dated expression unless cynical. Perhaps you have only experienced one type.

Its the difference between bangers and mash, and a five course meal. (I 'll leave you to work out which is which)

I'm with Darwin, main difference is the cheese factor - and maybe a Barry White track?

I guess you just need to ask yourself if it just stirs your loins or also stirs your soul. (sorry that was the romantic in me breaking free for a moment there)

I think the difference is mostly in the time of day.

@ anon: Heh touchy subject somewhat? That's quite a bitter and presumptious response for what is essentially just an opinion of mine lol! I'm certainly aware of the difference between a bangers and mash, VS a five course meal, I'd just rather not get into an argument about semantics with you when obviously you're making rather silly assumptions about my "types experiences".

*dramatically steps off soapbox with a flourish*

Ok I feel too old,to attempt this analysis ,however,I believe one involves having feelings for the person, whereas the other does not...

Blimey this has caused some discussion.

Anon - In answer to your question about what I've been doing lately I think the best answer is that I've been mostly, ahem, concentrating on my solo career.

I agree with Darwin's point. Hardly anybody says "making love" anymore, and even if they do, they don't say it with a straight face, (unless they are from the Meditteranean or South America and are resorting to English as a second langauge).

But hardly anybody apart from American teenagers actually "have sex". Everyone SAYS they had sex. But they're lying. They were either making love, or they were fucking.
