What's Your Slightly Embarrassing Secret?

We're not talking about big drastic ones, like confessing to the Sri Lankan blogosphere that you once had a little game of hide the sausage with your great Aunt. No, I mean "slightly" embarrassing.

I'll start the ball rolling by telling you that I can't whistle. Never have I been able to do that whole pursing of the lips, making some movement with my tongue and chucking out a pleasant sounding melody thing that Otis Elevator and all those other chaps can do without having to even think about it.

I can do one where I ram two fingers into my mouth and attract the attention of some stranger on the other side of a medium sized town, that's easy enough. It has its uses but it's no good whatsoever when I feel a need to casually get out the melody to Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond, or perhaps Song Sung Blue.

But, get me to make that pointy cone shape with my mouth and, try as I might, with all the different tongue positions I can think of, it's just a stream of silent air that comes gushing out.

What's your slightly embarrassing secret?

well i can whistle but can't manage the "one-where-I-ram-two-fingers-into-my-mouth-and-attract-the-attention" thing.

how to do it, really? i'm dyin' to learn :)

Fear of heights! (Acrophobia I think they call it)

I’ve tried my best to conquer it in my younger days (by climbing trees, climbing on to my roof, etc.). But never got over it. Any elevation beyond 15 feet and my legs start to wobble.

PS: I can whistle using my tongue and the lips but never mastered the fingers-in-the-mouth whistle. It certainly would be handy during the big-match season here in SL.

In the spirit of confession, I confess I can not dance..Meaning I have two left feet ....I fell embarassed and know that I move rather slopply when do that. Even when I am drunk , I notice this. I have trampled feet , kneed girls on the crotch . Hit the couple dancing next to me....And this is during slow songs.

Ha ha.. I'm the exact opposite.. can whistle to a decent tune.. but jab two fingers in all i get is air blowing through with no sound.. I figured this was harder than the plain ol whistle..

hmm so does that qualify as my embarrassing secret?

Darwin - Ever watch "Friends"?

Dili - Tht's my other embarrasing secret!

Nirma and Chaarmax - I'll show you mine if you show me yours

Anon - same for me. And most Sri Lankan men when I think of it.

Bimal - So, if you were stuck up a tall tree you'd never be able to attract the attention of a passer by for many reasosn. Nightmare!

Ah well in that case.. ;)

I confess that apart from the blowing-air-with-2-finger and double-left-footed-contortions mentioned above I am incapable of surviving in an aquatic environment with a depth greater than 6ft.

I cant swim.

Rhythmic Diaspora said...

Dili - I only learnt to swim about 3 years' ago and it's not one of my strongest skills by any means.

i am a naturally clumsy yet fidgety person. i have managed to trip over my two feet while trying not to fidget i.e i have tripped by just trying to stand still. happens on a daily basis, and all my friends are used to it by now. its fun seeing strangers try not to laugh at me though...
