Favourite places - Triton Hotel

Full of poor quality tourists yet I adore the place. I haven't seen it since it was refurbished and renamed but I hope the character has remained. I first went there as a child sometime around 1979.

There's just something about it that captures me.

Thank you Mr Bawa!

I am pretty sure my baby was convenied during a stay there... we did toy with the idea of calling Triton or even Ahungalle!!!!! Just joking.. went back there last year it was being refurbished after tsunami. But yes we loved it too!

This could open up an interesting discussion! Someone once told me a story of an expat couple who had a child called Yala.

Oh no! How awful for the sprog concered!!!!

No we refrained from doing that and settled for a nice Asian name.

Well Triton Hotel is nice.. did you know that Jason Donnovan stayed there too many years ago? The food there is lovely too! Hope it is open soon.

twos - I totally agree with you about the food - I think it's probably my fave "hotel" food anywhere. I didn't know about Jason D but I would have been far more impressed if it was Kylie.

Co25 - The first pic is taken looking towards where that little gift shop / internet cafe is. The 2nd is one of the inner courtyard walls taken from inside. I believe it has been refurbished, renamed and reopened now.

Co25 - I just remembered. The pic on my profile was taken on th ebeach outside the Triton too. You can just see it in the distance.

twos - I don't want to reveal your top secret identity but are you the person whose name begins with T, that I have exchanged a couple of emails with?

oh, triton...the memories...been going there since i was born. Maybe I was even conceived there...cos we kept going there every vacation. no, seriously. every single opporunity that my father got leave - Triton. I have old faded pics of me in a baby pram, then me playin tennis there, to me checkin out sum foreign girl at the Avurudhu Kumari festival. Triton has seen my grow up. Post-tsunami reconstruction has seen a little of its character lost. The old steel lift remains, but is not in operation. The wooden tats have been replaced by plastic wind breakers. ugh. and the cosy table tennis bit has been converted to a fine dining restaurant. But most of it is still the same. Good 'ol triton. Ah, but now it's "The Heritance, Ahungalla"

Its been renamed Heritance, Ahungalla. The entrance has been given a facelift but havent been inside, so dont know whether it still looks the same.

Aha! You have a very distinctive style of writing. I learned my detection skills from a childhood spent watching many episodes of the Professionals. Bodie and Doyle taught me everything.
